Zachary Steinert-Threlkeld

2014-2015 Dissertation Fellow

Zachary Steinert-Threlkeld was an IGCC Dissertation Fellow from 2014-2015. He is an associate professor of public policy at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs. His research takes advantage of geolocated tweets, simulations, location data, and images to understand individual-level behavior at a daily level; these data can illuminate dynamics of mobilization, elite behavior, and state repression, among others. His dissertation shows that mobilization occurs through coordinating action undertaken by non-influential individuals with data from the Arab Spring.
