David Fortunato
Associate Professor at UC San Diego's School of Global Policy and Strategy
Fortunato is an applied political economist interested in the structure and function of legislatures. His research includes diverse phenomena, from how legislative resources equip representatives to control bureaucrats as manifest in more transparent police or stricter enforcement of opioid controls, to how women’s legislative representation reduces gender-discriminatory tax policy. Fortunato also studies how voters perceive and understand complex policy-making processes. He is the author of The Cycle of Coalition, winner of the 2022 Best Book in European Politics and Society, and has published articles in the leading political science journals.
